Olly, born Oliviero Riva on 17th November 1974. Singer, author, producer.
There are artists who have turned their music into a trademark, constantly repeating themselves without a change. This is not the case with Olly Riva. Change has always been his asset, ever since his punk debut with the Crummy Stuff, his skacore period with the Shandon’s, his swing days with the project Olly meets The Good Fellas, down to his recent 7 years of rock with The Fire.
With an inevitable constant: his voice that can be recognized among hundreds.
After 22 years making music, in 2014 he went back to the basics, to the music he grew up with when his father sat him on his lap and had him listen while he played farfisa music, namely soul and rhythm’n’blues.
It’s been a spontaneous process, being part of him in this period of his life, as is his freedom in expressing his emotions with no restraints, as only soul (the music of the soul) can allow doing.
And since nothing happens by chance, along the way he came across….
Ferdinando “Ferdi” Masi
Born in 1964. Among his most illustrious collaborations: Shockin’Tv, Peter Sellers & The Hollywood party, Sabaudians, Manupuma. Co-founder and ex member of Casino Royale and Giuliano Palma & The Bluebeaters.
Following the separation from Giuliano Palma, he took over the Bluebeaters project, which has just celebrated its 20th anniversary; the fans were waiting for them, so the tour goes on.
Considering his experience and his passion for this music genre, who else could have been the Soulrockets’ drummer?
Gino “Geeno” De Angelis
He debuted with the Tiratura Limitata’s punk, to move to the northern soul of the Blue Eyed Soul Team and to the Jane J’s Clan’s soul.
Bass player and impeccable dancer on stage, he expresses his passion for black music with no restraints; dance teacher and leading figure in the Italian art scene focusing on the 60s.
Vincenzo “Jack” Giacalone
“Fiery riff grinder” not a bad description for the youngest member of band: the guitarist. Born in 1986, member of another interesting project for fine palates: the Doppie Viti.
Gabriele Bernardi
Piano and Hammond, precision with the right dose of improvisation.
He graduated from Como Conservatory and subsequently achieved, again with honours, two diplomas: “Course for authors and composers” and “Music Therapy” at HMI Institute in Bellinzona.
“Piano Teacher/ Ensemble Music / Theory & Harmony” at Associazione VMS. He also plays with Doppie Viti and Jane J’s Clan.
Luca Belloni – sax
He started playing sax by attending classes with the most famous maestri, like Paolo Tomelleri and Daniele Cavallanti. He plays with various artists.
Marcello Aloe – tenor sax
His collaborations range from Gianni Resta’s soul funk to the Roosevelt’s bossanova.
The band is touring Italy with a gig alternating their unpublished pieces with the great classics of the US and British soul and rhythmn’blues.
The tour goes on, keeping soul alive.
